Causes
Ligaments
are tough, non-stretchable fibers that hold bones that span the knee
joint together. The anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments in your
knee give you stability on your feet. The most common cause of a PCL
injury is a direct blow to the lower leg (tibia) while the knee is
bent. This type of impact is often seen in automobile accidents when
the driver or front passenger hits the dashboard just below their
kneecap. It is also possible to tear the PCL in a severe fall on a bent
knee.
