Treatment

Nonsurgical treatment of a popliteal cyst is generally quite effective and involves resting your knee and elevating it for several days. Your physician may also choose to drain the fluid in the cyst an inject cortisone to reduce swelling.

The cyst most commonly results from a torn meniscus and if needed, arthroscopic surgery may be used to treat the underlying problem.
