Xray Exam
X-ray images are simple and
safe. They use a small amount of radiation that is directed
toward the place that your physician wants to see. For example,
in the case of your knee, the radiation source is placed in
front of your knee cap or on the side of your knee with the
film located on the other side of your knee.
The film that is produced will show
a two dimensional image of your knee. Only dense objects will
appear, that means that bone will be shown as white on the
film but soft tissues like ligaments will be invisible. Your
physician will use the X-ray to see if the bones in your knee
are damaged or misaligned. You may need other tests to see
if your ligaments are damaged.
