A message from the designer, Dr. F. Gundolf:
What prevents us from making use of technically mature methods in orthopedic
surgery? Particularly when the objective is to safely and easily attend
to bone fissures or femoral fractures, to secure cancellous
bone or bone splints, or to provide care for an oblique fracture, the
application of a cerclage wire is in many cases not up to the current
technical standard.
In an adaptation of a system that has been used for a long time, a
bone-clasping band was developed which can be continuously adjusted to
the required length. With a simple instrument, the cerclage tightener,
the titanium band with a defined surface structure can be fixated and
tightened to the appropriate degree. The cerclage tightener is a simple
mechanical device which functions independently of electricity, pressured
air, and expensive machines.
The cerclage has been used in our hospital for several years, and the clinical
results have been most promising.
