What is CAS
Computer-Assisted Orthopedic Surgery (CAS) is the use of a computer to aid the surgeon in decision making during the process of total joint replacement surgery. The System is a computer workstation consisting of a screen, computer software, a positioning/tracking system, and surgical instruments. The positioning and tracking system is composed of small reflective spheres that are tracked by an optical camera to register the relative location of your bone structures and the instruments.
During the course of the surgery, the CAS positioning and tracking system gathers and stores all the information regarding your specific body structure; the motion and alignment of your normal anatomy; and your ideal or optimal joint alignment. With this data, the CAS System develops the framework that gives your surgeon information during the procedure to help assist in generating an optimally positioned and aligned implant.
